Scholarship
The Des Moines Mothers of Multiples (DMMOM) is proud to offer one $750 scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year for a multiple birth student pursuing enrollment or currently enrolled in a college, university, trade or vocational school. The scholarship committee will review all applications completed by the application deadline and select the recipient based upon the eligibility and requirements below.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicant must:
Be a twin, triplet or higher order multiple
Be either:
A senior in high school with plans to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school; or
A high school graduate (or equivalent) currently attending or planning to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school as a degree seeking student.
Be a resident of Iowa.
Complete the DMMOM Scholarship Application including the following:
An official copy of your most recent academic transcript from your school. Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher is required.
Two letters of recommendation that state the strengths and character of the applicant. The name, address and phone number of the person writing the recommendation, as well as the nature of the relationship (cannot be an immediate family member) and the length of time the applicant has been known by said individual, must be included.
A 300-500 word essay discussing one of the following two topics:
Your educational plan stating how this scholarship will help further your education; or
How being a multiple has impacted you and advice you would give to parent(s) who are raising multiple-birth children.
An acceptance letter from the college, university, trade or vocation school you plan to attend or an enrollment verification letter from the registrar’s office if currently enrolled in the institution. An enrollment verification letter will also be required upon the start of the term.
Copies of Birth Certificates for the applicant and the multiple birth child(ren) in order to verify multiple birth family status.
Award Process
Each completed application will be reviewed based on timely submission. Late submittals will automatically be disqualified.
Completed applications, essays, and letters of recommendation will be reviewed by the DMMOM Scholarship Committee or designated panel of volunteers within the DMMOM organization.
Scholarships will be awarded based upon several factors and criteria including academic achievement, leadership and extracurricular activities, personal essay and letters of recommendation.
Only one scholarship shall be awarded per person per academic year and shall be applied to tuition, room and board, textbooks or other costs directly related to pursuing a degree at that school.
The winner will be notified in writing within 60 days of the deadline.
Award checks will be sent directly to the university, college, trade or vocational school in both the winner’s name and the school’s name once the student provides an enrollment verification letter after their first term has started.
If an award recipient does not attend a university, college, trade or vocational institution in the 2024-2025 academic year, the award is forfeited.
